We also respond to natural disasters and other emergencies, provide mental healthcare and advocate for the development of more effective and affordable medicines to improve access to treatment for people everywhere. We currently run projects in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Telangana.

 The Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine (GHHM) course is a part-time, online and classroom-based course. It’s run by Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to provide affordable, global access to high-quality education in tropical medicine. 

We’ve developed the course with international academics, MSF staff, clinicians and medical experts to provide outstanding teaching.

Job Purpose

The key responsibility of this position is to lead implementation of the Global Health and Humanitarian Course in South Asia and be the focal point for collaboration between ‘Academic medical institutions in South Asia’, ‘MSF – UK’ and ‘MSF India’. The incumbent would be the overall accountable for smooth implementation of the course in South Asia in line with the overall strategic vision as approved by the steering committee of the Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine Course.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic coordination of the course at the South Asia site

  1. Act as the focal point for collaboration between the different stakeholders of the course. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Academic medical institutes of excellence (Christian Medical College – Vellore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education – Manipal, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research – Puducherry)
    • MSF UK
    • MSF India Branch office
  2. Be the custodian of Memorandum of Understanding with the various stakeholders:
    • Ensure the course activities are in alignment with the MoU.
    • Ensure all the MoU are up-to-date and renewed at the appropriate time.
    • Ensure smooth flow of information between the signatory authorities.
  3. Explore additional academic institutes for future collaborations ensuring equitable access to the participants in the region:
    1. Physical exploration of potential academic sites.
    2. Drafting appropriate concept note and sharing with MSF UK, Royal College of Physicians (UK) and other stakeholders.
    3. Drafting appropriate Letter of support, Memorandum of Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding for discussion with the stakeholders.
  4. Ensure adherence to MSF India “Finance and Compliance Committee” advisory during all external collaboration.
  5. Ensure adherence to MSF policy of communication and liaise with the Communications department for any external events where MSF is represented.

Coordinate Course planning at the South Asia Site

  1. Lead planning of the course content to ensure appropriate coverage of all modules of the GHHM syllabus:
    • In close collaboration with Faculties relevant to the topics, help to establish a course calendar inclusive of mutually agreed dates with the collaborators;
    • Under supervision of the Course Director, invite appropriate faculty members to deliver lecture on the course.
    • Help identify key speakers for lectures taken from the pool of MSF-South Asia field staff returning who work or have worked in projects relevant to the course’s subject;
    • Co-own all modules and support the course content developer in appropriate coverage of the required topics.
    • Ensure the course curriculum follows the GHHM syllabus in alignment with the DTM&H syllabus as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians (UK).
    • Ensure the course curriculum has adequate representation of humanitarian medicine.
    • Coordinate on conduct of webinars and moderation of the sessions.
  2. Lead the organization of the ‘Basic microscopy and parasitology training’ at the South Asia Site.
    • Ensure preparation of the sites for adequate delivery of the course.
    • Ensure preparation of the training module for each respective site.
    • Ensure students are allocated as per the request of the academic sites and the student preference.
    • Ensure the Royal College of Physicians (UK) prescribed criteria are met during the ‘Basic microscopy and parasitology’ training.
  3. Ensure support to the course content developer in quality improvement and development of course modules:
    • Have an overview of the overall content and support in content development through:
      • Contributing to topics of expertise.
      • Identifying key faculty members in the respective sites together with the chief collaborators in respective academic institutions.
      • Identify external experts for supporting teaching on topics relevant to the programme.
    • Ensure student have enough opportunity to feedback on the course and the same is taken into account at various steps of planning and implementation.
    • Support in the resolution of students’ barrier to compliance with the course requirements.

Overall Course conduct

  1. Ensure overall conduct of the course in compliance with the advisory of the Finance and compliance committee of the MSF BO – South Asia.
  2. Ensure seamless launch of the course:
    • Ensure appropriate outreach strategy for potential applicants with focus on equitable access in-line with the course objectives.
    • Support update of the Course flyer, Course website, Course prospectus and Course handbook annually.
    • Ensure application launch and student selection in line with the institutional requirements, GHHM Course best practices, and MSF guidelines.
  3. Ensure weekly conduct of the webinars:
    • Support the GHHM Content Developer and Course Admin for weekly conduct of the webinars.
    • Together with the Media & AV Manager and Course Admin troubleshoot technical problems and explore creative solutions for MSF and the collaborating sites.
    • Encourage regular review of the technical requirements for running the program and assessing if they are appropriate with the requirements for the smooth delivery of the lectures at the South Asia site.
    • Lead the discussions for negotiations for lecture recording and ‘Contributor release forms’.
  4. Ensure seamless functioning of the Course online platform:
    • Support content developer in selection of appropriate lectures for uploading.
    • Support site admin in keeping the information spots up-to-date.
    • Support in discussions regarding uploading any sensitive material online.

Finance and compliance

  1. Prepare Annual plan and budget for submission at the MSF India Branch office.
  2. Prepare plan for cash flow for submission at the MSF India Branch office finance department.
  3. Prepare budget in the MSF UK required format for submission to the GHHM Project Manager and support with quarterly reforecasting.
  4. Manage and oversee GHHM SA budget, reporting any changes to the MSF BO Finance department and Project Manager at MSF UK.
  5. Ensure timely and compliant reimbursement to the collaborating institutes for their support to the GHHM course.
  6. Adherence to the guidelines of the MSF-India Finance department for all matters concerning to transactions related to the program. This includes but is not limited to GST and FCRA related issues.
  7. In-charge of preparation of all external statutory reporting for the Finance and compliance committee.
  8. Support the Fundraising focal point for external meetings and pitch for the GHHM Course.
  9. Foresee risk and bring forth those discussions to the General Director – MSF India BO and the Course Director – GHHM.
  10. Draft and submit annual RCP Audit Report for GHHM SA course.


  1. Represent GHHM Course at the South Asia site in:
    • Internal meetings:
      • Steering committee meeting
      • Team meeting
      • Moderator meeting
      • Planning meeting
      • Information sessions to National and Expat staff
      • Information sessions to the office.
  2. Represent GHHM SA in External to MSF meetings:
    • Meeting with the collaborators
    • Meeting with the prospective collaborators

Team Management

  • Ensure smooth functioning of the team and achievement of the respective KPIs.
  • Promote personal development
  • Be the focal point for resolution of any team-conflict at the GHHM South Asia site.

Additional Tasks

MSF is a humanitarian organization involved in emergency programs. MSF staff are requested to be flexible and helpful and may be asked to perform additional activities whenever needed.

  • 100% students have option to access ‘Basic microscopy and parasitology’ training.
  • 100% compliance is observed in all external activities.
  • The incumbent is overall accountable for the key performance indicators of the course dependent upon the:
  • Successful implementation of the GHHM Course in South Asia as indicated by the following main key indicators of the reportees:
    • There is less than 10% avoidable attrition for the academic year.
    • At least 75% of the eligible students appear for the RCP (UK) DTM&H examinations.
    • At least 90% of collaborators queries are addressed timely.
    • At least 90% of Online Group Activities are coordinated and released at a predefined schedule with 90% student engagement.
    • 100% of webinars are coordinated and moderated.
    • At least 90% of the webinar schedule and agenda are timely updated at a predefined schedule.
    • At least 90% of the students’ queries on administration and logistics are addressed every week.
    • At least 90% of lecture feedbacks are timely collated and shared diplomatically with the appropriate stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications  & Functional / Technical Skills

  • MBBS (Graduate Medical Doctor)
  • Post Graduate Degree in Tropical Medicine / Infectious Diseases / Public Health.
  • Significant knowledge of “Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene” examination requirements.
  • Proficient in Word processing, Operating Systems, Email, the internet, managing databases and spreadsheets
  • Experience in handling new online video-telephony and chat platforms.
  • Experience in maintaining online learning platforms is highly desirable.

Relevant Experience

  • Previous experience of working with a humanitarian organization is desirable.
  • Previous pedagogical experience is desirable.
