The Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine (GHHM) course is a part-time, online and classroom-based course. It’s run by Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to provide affordable, global access to high-quality education in tropical medicine.
We’ve developed the course with international academics, MSF staff, clinicians and medical experts to provide outstanding teaching.
The course is designed to equip doctors with the basic knowledge needed to work in tropical medicine. The course prepares you to sit the Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (DTM&H) exam offered by the Royal College of Physicians UK (or other exams of similar quality).
The course will run from June 2020 until the DTM&H exam in April 2021.
We teach the course using:
The course, while part-time, is equivalent to a three-month full-time study commitment. In addition to the two-hour weekly lectures, you’ll be expected to spend four to five hours per week on the online platform, self-learning.
There’ll be additional face-to-face teaching days including 16 hours of Laboratory-based training sessions held in our collaborating academic site.
The GHHM course is loosely based on the content of the Oxford Handbook of Tropical Medicine and covers much of the syllabus required by the DTM&H exam.
It also has a strong focus on the practical and public health aspects of working with humanitarian organisations such as MSF.
If you’re undertaking other professional studies or exams at the same time, we strongly encourage you to consider how this will impact on your ability to commit to the GHHM course. Inability to participate adequately during the course will result in not being certified to sit the DTM&H exam and failure in GHHM course completion.
Fees are determined according to where applicants are presently domiciled:
The course fee includes the cost of the parasitology training required of all students. The fee does not include travel & accommodation costs or the DTM&H exam fee.
